Capistrano Beach, sometimes called "Capo Beach" by locals, is located in the south section of Dana Point in Orange County, California. It is bordered by San Clemente to the south and Laguna Beach to the north. Capistrano Beach is one of the few remaining "beach towns" in the OC. While lacking the resort cachet of Laguna and Newport Beach, Capistrano Beach is a unique and charming place with a "small town" atmosphere.
Capistrano Beach homes range from beach cottages to some of the finest real estate in Orange County. Many multi-million dollar homes can be found in the area, with some situated atop a cliff overlooking Coast Highway and the Capistrano Beach park below. There are also more modest older homes in Capistrano Beach, farther inland off Camino Capistrano.
Capo Beach itself is one of those places you can go in the evening and relax. It's a quick walk from your car, and one of the easiest beaches in the area to find parking. It's also a short walk from the shops of Dana Point Harbor. The Amtrak train heading to the San Juan Capistrano station whizzes right by the beach, adding virtually the only reminder of the bustle of Southern California.
Capistrano Beach homes sit on a promontory overlooking Dana Point Harbor. It is one of the last "beach towns" in existence. Oil magnate Edward Doheny bought several lots in Capistrano Beach in 1928. He built several Spanish-style homes both on the bluffs and on the beach before tragedy struck the family. In 1944, the lots were sold by Doheny's widow to private citizens.
Parks and Recreation
Dana Point maintains 22 parks, a community center and a community garden. The Dana Point Community Center offers basketball, volleyball and restrooms. Parks generally include picnic and playground facilities, some contain grills and doggie parks, while others offer ball fields and athletic courts.
